1678 – Elena Cornaro Piscopia was the first woman awarded a doctorate of philosophy. She received her doctorate from the University of Pradua after more than an hour of examination regarding her understanding of the works of Aristotle. To make things even more difficult, the entire examination was conducted in Classic Latin.










2000 - U.S. and British researchers announced that after 10 years of study a rough draft of a map of the genetic makeup of human beings had been completed.
