Sept. 21 - J.R.R. Tolkien publishes "The Hobbit"

Happy 73rd anniversary to "The Hobbit"! The hugely successful children's novel has passed the test of time and is regarded as of the best all time classics in it's genre. The novel has evolved over the last decade, as its sequel, "The Lord of the Rings" became one of the greatest successes in both literature and film history.

Now in 2010, "The Hobbit" is seen not only as a classic novel, but also as a collector's item. The first printing of the first English language edition has gone for over $20,000.00 in some auctions, while recent figures have estimated that worldwide sales of the novel are in the neighborhood of 100 million copies sold since 1937.

Needless to say, "The Hobbit" is one of the all-time classics in literature history and one of J.R.R. Tolkien's finest works.
