On this day 41 years ago, a Detroit based radio station received a phone call that would churn the worldwide rumour mill forever. On October 12, 1969, a caller phoned Detroit's WKNR radio station and asked them to play the Beatles' smash hit "Strawberry Fields Forever" in reverse. When the radio station agreed to do this, everyone could hear John Lennon say the words "I buried Paul". This started a worldwide rumour that Paul McCartney was dead, and that there was an "impostor Paul" in his place.
Today this rumour is still believed by many, and is known worldwide as the "Paul is Dead" hoax. This is just one example of all the hysteria that surrounded the Beatles during the 1970's.
