October 18 - The Winnipeg Jets are sold!

On this day, 15 years ago, the Winnipeg Jets were sold to an American group who planned on moving the team to Phoenix. The Jets would play out their last season in Winnipeg, before the team would be relocated in Arizona. This was a tough time for Canadian hockey fans, as within the span of one year, Canada had lost both the Quebec Nordiques and the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets would end their last season in Winnipeg by losing in the 1st round of the playoffs to the top seeded Red Wings.

The team moved to Phoenix the following year, where they have yet to win a playoff round. The once proud Canadian franchise has floundered in Phoenix, where the team is currently looking for new ownership and fighting off bankruptcy. Canadian fans hold out hope that the Jets can return back to Winnipeg, where the city is starving for NHL hockey again.

For all the Winnipeg Jets fans out there, here is a clip that is sure to make you smile!
