November 22 - Wayne Gretzky scores his 500th career goal

On this day 24 years ago, the Great One scored his 500th career NHL goal against the Vancouver Canucks. He was the 13th player in league history to accomplish the feat and was the fastest to reach the mark as it only took him 575 games. To put that into perspective, it took Mark Messier 1,141 games to reach the 500 goal mark.

Gretzky would end his career as the all-time leading goal scorer in NHL history with 894 career goals in 1,487 games. He ended his career with a grand total of 61 NHL records, many of which will never be broken.

The NHL has not had a player hit the 500 goal mark since 2008, when Keith Tkachuck scored his milestone goal in his 1,055th game. Teemu Selanne, Mark Recchi, and Mike Modano are currently the only active players with over 500 career goals.
