November 28 - John Lennon make his last ever concert appearance

On this day in 1974, a music icon unknowingly made his last ever concert appearance. At an Elton John concert at Madison Square Garden, John Lennon came on stage and performed "Whatever Gets you Through the Night", "Lucky in the Sky with Diamonds", and "I Saw Her Standing There" in front of a packed house in New York City.

Lennon's arrival was a surprise to all the fans in attendance. Lennon made a deal with Sir Elton that if their song "Whatever Gets you Through the Night" reached #1 (which Lennon didn't think it would), Lennon would have to make an appearance at John's Thanksgiving Day concert at Madison Square Garden. As far as surprise guest appearances go, having John Lennon show up unannounced may be as good as it gets!

In 1975 when Lennon's second child was born, the former Beatles legend took a 5 year hiatus from the music industry. So fans, Elton John, and even Lennon himself had no idea at the time that when John Lennon walked off the stage on Thanksgiving night in 1974, he would never walk back on one for the rest of his life.
