November 29 - The Montreal Forum Opens

On this day in 1924, the doors opened to one of hockey's and Canada's most historic venues. The Montreal Forum, home of the Montreal Canadiens from 1926-1996 (Montreal Maroons occupied the building from 1924-1926) has been the setting for several iconic moments in both sport and music.

The arena was dubbed "The most iconic building in hockey history" by The Sporting News as it was home to several Canadien Stanley Cup wins along with several international hockey events. The Forum was the host to the first game of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and Russia where the Russians walked in and shocked Canadians from coast to coast by beating Team Canada.

In 1976, The Forum was the site of 5 Olympic events. The most memorable moment from those games came from Nadia Comaneci as her "Perfect 10" was the first in the history of Olympic Gymnastics.

The Forum closed on March 11, 1996 when the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Dallas Stars. The night was marked by one of the most emotional moments in hockey history, when the Forum crowd gave a Canadien legend Maurice "The Rocket" Richard a 10 minute standing ovation.
