December 1 - The Beatles invade North America

On this day in 1963, The Beatles released their first single in the United States when their iconic single "I want to hold your hand" hit the Billboard Charts. The song would become the first Beatles track to reach #1 in the United States and is credited for helping kick start "The British Invasion" into the United States music scene.

The song held the #1 spot on the charts for 7 consecutive weeks and became the Beatles' best selling single worldwide. The song is credited as being one of the most influential Beatles songs of all time and helped the English rock group have one of the most impressive years in music history in 1964. Starting from "I want to hold your hands" last week at #1, The Beatles would go on to produce seven #1 singles during that one year time frame.

In 2004, the song was ranked #16 on the Rolling Stones "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". "I want to hold your hand" also cracked the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of "500 songs that shaped Rock n' Roll".
