January 2 - Niagara Falls is here to stay!

On this day in 1929, Canada and the USA agreed to preserve the beautiful, picturesque, and historic landmark that is Niagara Falls. Prior to this agreement, there were talks about construction happening just North of the Falls and the signed document assured no construction would take place and put restrictions in place to make sure the beauty of the Falls would remain in tact.

Niagara Falls is one of the most recognized landmarks in North America. While the total height of the Falls totals only 167 ft., the landmark is exceptionally wide as it covers more than 6 million cubic feet (168,000 m³). Needless to say, it is the most powerful waterfall in North America!

Movies such as Superman II and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End have been shot at Niagara Falls, and in 1990 illusionist David Copperfield performed a trick where he appeared to travel over the Horseshoe Falls (the part of the waterfall which is fully located in Canada).
